Heps Uganda Membership Guidelines
HEPS-Uganda is a Health Consumer’s Organisation advocating for health rights and responsibilities in Uganda. Below you can find an organisational overview.

Three types of membership
HEPS-Uganda has 3 kinds of membership

  1. Health Activists:              Individuals who are actively participating in  HEPS projects and/ or programmes.
  2. Individual Memberships: Individuals who support HEPS efforts to promote  access to health for all Ugandans.
  3. Organisational Memberships: Organizations who support and/or participate in HEPS efforts to promote                                                  access to health for all Ugandans.

Member’s benefits and responsibilities are viable for a year (beginning 1 January ending 31 December) Membership fees must be paid for the whole year even if the membership starts after beginning of the year. Benefits are for the member only and non-transferable to others.

In addition to becoming a member, individuals and organistions can also support HEPS-Uganda (projects) as Donors or partners. For these cases a separate agreement will be made to state mutual benefits and responsibilities.

HEPS-Uganda has various types of membership to suit different people who support the promotion of health consumers rights and responsibilities.

Health Activist
There are 5 different types of health activists. Below are the benefits and responsibilities for each type

HEPS Community Trainer / HEPS School Trainer

Benefits

Responsibilities / membership fees

  1. Receive a 2-day education for community health trainer. Learn to train your peers on Health Rights, Health Responsibilities including RUM*
  2. Receive quarterly newsletter and bi-annual health empowerment information pack
  3. Usage of HEPS resource centre and HEPS counseling & redress services
  4. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  • Train at least 30 community members on Health Rights, Helath Responsibilities including RUM
  • Be an example on healthy behavior in your community / family
  • Membership fee: 1,000 Ushs a year

* Qualified trainers will receive a certificate and one set of community education materials in the local language

HEPS Health Advocate / Researcher

Benefits

Responsibilities / membership fees

  1. Participate in HEPS health policy advocacy and research projects
  2. Receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summary
  3. Usage of HEPS resource centre and HEPS counseling & redress services
  4. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  • Execute agreed advocacy and/or research activities
  • Attend working group meetings
  • Membership fee: 30,000 Ushs a year

 

HEPS Volunteer (Fulltime or Part-time)

Benefits

Responsibilities / membership fees

  1. Participate in HEPS health policy advocacy and research projects
  2. Receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summary
  3. Usage of HEPS resource centre and HEPS counseling & redress services
  4. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  • Work for HEPS on voluntary basis for at least two full days a week during the whole year.
  • Execute agreed activities as agreed upon in the TOR and contract
  • Membership fee: free

 

HEPS Health Ambassador

  1. Acknowledgement on HEPS Website (if desired)
  2. Receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summary
  3. Usage of HEPS resource centre and HEPS counseling & redress services
  4. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  1. Promote HEPS-Uganda’s projects and strategic programmes to relevant stakeholders
  2. Membership fee: 100,000 Ushs a year

Honoree member

Organizational Membership
There are 4 different types of organsiational membership. Below are the benefits and responsibilities for each type

District based NGO / CBO


Benefits

Responsibilities / membership fees

  1. Receive 1-day training on health advocacy tools and techniques*
  2. Possibility to participate in a local health policy implementation research*
  3. Mention and link (if applicable) on HEPS website
  4. Receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summary
  5. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  • Membership fee: 25,000 Ushs a year

* Restrictions may apply (among others, district must be in HEPS area of operation)

National or International Organizations


Benefits

Responsibilities / membership fees

  1. Advocacy training for staff at reduced rate of 200.000 Ushs a day plus transport (if desired)
  2. Mention and link on HEPS website
  3. Receive quarterly newsletter and weekly health news summary
  4. Voting right at annual grand assembly
  • Membership fee: 50,000 Ushs a year of national organisations and 150,000 Ushs a year for international organsiations
